The Cobra
Thai Yoga massage London is directly rooted in the Indian healing traditions of Ayurvedic medicine. The founding father founder of Thai Yoga Massage, Jivaka Kumarbhaccha was a renowned doctor and yogi, and was purportedly the personal physcian to the Buddha himself. After the Buddha’s death, the early Buddhist monks traveled throughout Southeast Asia accompanied by Ayurvedic doctors. It was the healing therapies practiced by these doctors that later evolved into traditional Thai Massage.
The Fish
In Thai Yoga Massage, called Nuad Boran in the Thai language (meaning simply ‘ancient-style massage’), the therapist assists the client through a series of yoga postures, while palming and thumbing along the body’s energy lines (known as ‘Sen lines’) and acupressure points. As well as palms and thumbs, advanced therapists also use their knees, feet, forearms, elbows to stretch and massage every muscle and rotate every joint in the client’s body.
The Locust
Techniques include rhythmic rocking, stretching of the limbs, back or neck; pulling fingers, toes, ears, walking on the recipient’s back, and moving and lifting the recipient’s body into many different positions. Together these actions result in a comprehensive full body treatment that improves circulation, relieves stress, reduces muscular tension, boosts the immune system and balances the body energetically.
The Plough
Traditionally Thai Yoga Massage uses few oils or lotions, although at Thai-vedic massage we do use oils towards the end of the treatment on the face and neck only. (Please tell your therapist if you prefer a massage entirely without oil. Some clients prefer us not to get any oil in their hair on on their face if they are wearing makeup). The client wears loose, comfortable clothing during a treatment which is performed on a futon on the floor rather than on massage table as with the majority of other forms of massage.
