Ayurvedic Massage London

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage London (sometimes known as Indian Yoga Massage) can be described as a cross between Thai Yoga Massage and Deep Tissue Massage, as it uses many of the yoga type stretches you may be familiar with from Thai Yoga Massage, but we use similar massage strokes as used in Deep Tissue Massage, with our palms and fists and also our feet!

In fact because we also use our feet, we are applying pressure with more of our bodyweight than in Deep Tissue massage, so Ayurvedic Yoga Massage is actually stronger than Deep Tissue Massage.

We use heated organic coconut oil and calamus powder (powdered sedge grass) which exfoliates the skin and provides grip when we are using our feet to massage your back and legs. The powder has anti septic, anti-inflammatory and exfoliating properties. It helps to release toxins from lymph and muscles.

Yoga Massage London with Stephen Nock

Ayurvedic Yoga Massage was originally developed in the city of Pune, India in the early 1980s by the teacher Kusum Modak who based the stretching techniques used in the massage routine on Iyengar yoga. A female student of Pune based Indian Yoga Guru BKS Iyengar, Kusum brought together the essence of Iyengar Yoga practice, along with her personal experience on Ayurvedic massage gained from her old teacher Master Lamaye Maharaj, an expert in the art of therapeutic massage.

The massage is done on a mattress on the floor, and the parts of your body that are not being massaged are draped with a towel.
Thai-vedic massage’s therapists, Stephen and Clara, first met while they were training in this beautiful bodywork method at Rasovai Ayurvedic massage training centre in Goa. Because of the similarities with Thai Yoga massage we are able to incorporate stretches from Thai Yoga Massage into our Ayurvedic Yoga Massages and vice versa. This enable us to have a bigger toolbox of techniques to choose from in order to respond more specifically to your body’s particular needs.
